The Estate
Luciano Sandrone established his domaine in 1978, building from just a few rows of vines into one of Barolo’s most admired estates. Working from vineyards around Barolo and Novello, the style has always been about marrying Nebbiolo’s power with approachability. Aleste (previously known as Cannubi Boschis) is the estate’s flagship Barolo, renamed in 2013 to honour Luciano’s grandchildren, Alessia and Stefano. It remains one of the most consistent and sought-after single-vineyard wines in Piedmont.
The Vintage – Barolo 2015
2015 was a warm and generous vintage in Barolo. A long summer with healthy conditions gave wines of ripe fruit, supple tannins and early accessibility, without sacrificing structure. At their best, 2015s are broad and charming, with the balance to age.
The Wine
Aleste 2015 shows the richness of the year with Sandrone’s trademark polish. Dark cherry, plum, spice and rose are lifted by freshness and fine tannic drive. Full-bodied and layered, but not heavy.
