Good afternoon,
From the hilltops of Montalcino comes a Brunello that captures everything we love about Sangiovese — purity, complexity, and stunning elegance. Riccardo Campinoti’s La Ragnaie 2016 is a tour de force that defines the vintage and affirms why this estate is one of the region’s brightest stars.
Located just south of Montalcino town, La Ragnaie boasts the highest elevation vineyard in the entire appellation. This altitude, combined with old vines and organic farming, gives their wines a radiant freshness and mineral lift that few can match. The 2016 Brunello is crafted from a blend of estate sites, including the original Le Ragnaie vineyard, the sun-drenched Fornace in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, and parcels in Montosoli, Montalcino’s most prized cru.
Aged in large Slavonian oak botti, the result is a wine that’s rich in nuance — bursting with wild berries, crushed rose petals, Tuscan herbs, and that signature earthy minerality that is captivating.
Why we love this wine:
From one of Montalcino’s highest vineyards
Vintage 2016 = one of the greatest Brunello vintages of the decade
Balanced, detailed, and impeccably age-worthy
Organic farming, traditional winemaking, and immense terroir transparency
A firm, linear style, featuring black cherry, black currant, licorice, iron and spice aromas and flavors. Though firmly structured and compact, there’s an energy here and an overall balance that makes this red compelling. Ends with a terrific finish, evoking fruit, spice and underbrush accents. Best from 2025 through 2048.

Bruce Sanderson – Wine Spectator
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Le Ragnaie mixes nuances of wild herbs and stone dust with bright notions of strawberry and dried roses. It’s silky and pliant upon entry yet quickly gains tactile depths through salty mineral tones, as floral-laced red berries cascade across the palate. The symmetry here is impeccable, as is its purity of fruit, with fine tannins that result in a structured finale. That said, it should only take a few years of cellaring to bring this fully into focus. Often referred to as the “White Label,” this blends fruit from Le Ragnaie’s vineyards located throughout Montalcino to create a balanced expression of each vintage. It’s a wonderful introduction to the Le Ragnaie style.
