Jean Foillard is one of Beaujolais’ most respected vignerons. Foillard’s style is rooted in purity and finesse: whole-cluster fermentations, minimal intervention, and a focus on delivering Gamay with Burgundian inflections.
I spent some time tasting at the domaine this year and for me out of the line up 2021 vintage takes Beaujolais back to its roots. After a run of warmer, riper years, 2021 brought cooler conditions and lower yields, producing wines of freshness, perfume and definition.
For me, this style is closer to what Beaujolais has always been about – bright red fruit, floral lift, crisp acidity and mineral edges. Less about power, more about elegance and drinkability. In the hands of Foillard, these are precise, classically styled Beaujolais that speak clearly of their terroir.
I have managed to secure the below straight from the domaine – these wines sell pretty swiftly..
