Good Afternoon,

Happy Friday!

Few wines encapsulate the essence of Côte-Rôtie like Château d’Ampuis.

Crafted by the legendary Guigal family, this is from the stunning 2019 vintage. The fruit is sourced from seven historic vineyards on both the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, each neighboring the iconic La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque. Aged for 38 months in new oak barrels, this 93% Syrah, 7% Viognier blend delivers breathtaking depth and concentration.

We have secured a price which allows us to offer this at under $280/bottle

Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, the estate quickly gained worldwide recognition under the leadership of his son Marcel Guigal, who introduced the now-legendary “LaLa” wines—La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque. Today, Philippe Guigal, the third generation, continues the family’s unwavering commitment to quality.

In 1995, the Guigal family purchased Château d’Ampuis, a 12th-century estate overlooking the Rhône River, restoring it to its former grandeur. Inspired by its history, they created the Château d’Ampuis wine, a blend of seven exceptional vineyards—three from the Côte Blonde and four from the Côte Brune. These vineyards neighbor the LaLa crus, showcasing Côte-Rôtie’s finest terroir.

This is a wine that sits between Guigal’s Brune et Blonde (Côte-Rôtie’s benchmark) and the ultra-rare LaLa wines, offering collectors and enthusiasts an extraordinary expression of the appellation. The 2019 vintage, from an exceptional growing season, is one of the finest yet, promising decades of aging potential.

I’ll leave with a couple of tasting notes

James Suckling – 95 Points (May 25, 2023)
“This combines the elegance and finesse for which the appellation is famous with tremendous power. In spite of this, the tannins are very fine, the generous oak already beautifully woven into the plush tapestry of flavors. Stunning length and complexity at the finish. From seven plots that are neighbors to La Mouline and La Landonne on the Côte-Rôtie.”

Wine Advocate – (94-96) Points (June 14, 2023)
“The 2019 Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis is a super example of this cuvée, which blends fruit from seven different lieux-dits (three on the Côte Blonde and four on the Côte Brune). Smoky, herbal, and complex, with a solid foundation of blueberry and raspberry fruit, it’s full-bodied and concentrated yet silky, elegant, and long on the finish.”

Jeb Dunnuck – (95-97) Points (June 14, 2023)
“Scheduled to be bottled at the end of October, the 2019 Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis is another beautiful, layered, incredibly impressive wine. Ripe darker fruits, smoked meats, tapenade, and ground pepper all define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, with a wealth of baby fat, lots of tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s certainly in line with past vintages and perhaps shows a touch more tannic structure than the 2018.”
