We have 30 cases (12x75cl) of Château Batailley 5ème Cru Classé, Pauillac 2021 available at $965 per case.
The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was shaped by a cool summer and careful vineyard work. It produced wines with lower alcohol, higher acidity and a more classical profile. Less about power, more about finesse, the best estates have made wines with clarity, structure and real typicity.
At Batailley, the result is a beautifully judged Pauillac: ripe cassis and blackcurrant with cedar, graphite and tobacco. Medium-bodied, polished and finely structured, this has freshness, balance and a long finish.
Critic Notes:
Neal Martin 92–94: Supple and harmonious, with fine grip and depth; one of the best Batailleys in recent years.
James Suckling 93–94: Blackcurrants, tobacco and pencil lead; medium-bodied, firm tannins, linear and focused.
Jane Anson 92: Classical Pauillac character, balance and ageing potential.
William Kelley 90–92: Cassis, loam, dark chocolate; charming palate with powdery tannins.
Approachable from the mid-2020s but with the depth and structure to evolve gracefully for 15+ years.
