Domaine Henri Germain et Fils. Founded in 1973 by Henri Germain (son-in-law to the great François Jobard), the domaine has always maintained a low profile, yet its wines have become cult favourites among sommeliers and collectors who seek classical, structured white Burgundy.

Now in the hands of Jean-François Germain, the estate is based in Meursault but also works holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet and Beaune. The approach is resolutely traditional: lutte raisonnée in the vineyards, no bâtonnage, indigenous yeast fermentations, and notably long élevage in mostly neutral barrels – usually 18 to 22 months. This patient, low-intervention style produces wines that are firm, mineral, and built to age gracefully.

The 2022 Meursault Blanc is drawn from parcels within the village, including Les Pellans and others near the Puligny border, yielding a wine that punches well above its classification. It’s precise and elegant, showing crushed rock, white orchard fruit, almond skin, and cool citrus – with a delicate interplay of volume and tension.

Jasper Morris (89–92 points): “Fine pale colour. This offers a classic nose with white fruit and flowers, a touch of spice from the wood. A lively, well-balanced wine with an excellent line of acidity. Good weight and length.”

William Kelly – Wine Advocate (90–92 points): “Ample and generous… notes of pear, clear honey, green apple and bread dough… satiny and layered… saline finish.”

Burghound (Early note): “A classic, clean and understated Meursault. Harmonious, elegant and built with both cut and finesse.”

For lovers of old-school Burgundy, this is textbook Meursault with a calm authority, no overt oak, no plushness, just poised, mineral-inflected Chardonnay that will reward both early drinking and mid-term cellaring.
